MANUFACTURE OF SILVER HALIDE PHOTOGRAPHIC EMULSION

PURPOSE: To reduce fog and to obtain high-contrast photographic characteristics and to enhance a covering power by incorporating a low molecular gelatin in a specified average molecular weight range and at least one of tetrazaindene or its derivatives. CONSTITUTION: The silver halide emulsion grains use the low molecular gelatin in an average molecular weight of 5,000-70,000, preferably, 10,000-50,000, especially, 10,000-30,000, as a protective colloid, and they contain at least one of the tetrazaindene and its derivatives. If the average molecular weight of the gelatin is lower than 5000, the viscosity of the emulsion is too low, resulting in unsuitably fast settling of the silver halide grains. It is preferred that the tetrazainde compound is added in a stage before a desalting step.
