COLOR FILTER SUBSTRATE AND ITS MANUFACTURE, AND LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY DEVICE

PURPOSE: To enable the tone of a color to be uniformly indicated in the whole areas from the center section of a picture plane over to its peripheral section by making the thickness of a red filter thinner than that of each green and blue filter at the peripheral section of a transparent substrate. CONSTITUTION: A red filter 33R, a green filter 33G and a blue filter 33B, which are partitioned by a black matrix 33D, are disposed over the one side surface of a transparent glass substrate 11. The black matrix 33D fulfills a function to prevent colors from being mixed with each other among the adjacent colored filters, and thereby enhancing the contrast of an image to be displayed. The blue filter 33B as a second color code is formed to be thinner in film thickness than the green filter 33G as a first color code, and the red filter 33R as a third color code is also formed to be furthermore thinner than the blue filter 33B as a second color code. The upper surfaces of these three color filters are covered by a smooth layer 23 filfilling a function as a protective film in addition, and a plurality of picture element electrodes 31 are formed over the layers.
