Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE: To provide a method and device for detecting the insulation-coating crack of an insulated electric wire for uniformly, easily, and accurately detecting a crack generated on the insulation-coating by measuring the state of the insulation-coating of the insulated electric wire nondestructively. CONSTITUTION: An input device 11 consisting of an optical sensor and an A/D converter 7 for converting light intensity distribution waveforms measured by the input device 11 and then converting the converted data to brightness data train which is a data train of brightness value. Further, an operation device 9 for obtaining the total number of cracks of the insulation coating by detecting the crack of the insulation coating based on the brightness data train converted by the A/D converter 7 and a specific crack criterion value and an output device 10 for displaying the total number of cracks of insulation coating obtained by the operation device 9 on a display are provided.
