Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE: To obtain an organic synthetic fiber, especially a polyvinyl alcohol- based fiber, excellent in adhesion to a cement and reinforcing effects on a concrete or a mortar and having a thick denier. CONSTITUTION: This thick fiber is obtained by adding a cross-linking agent to a spinning solution of polyvinyl alcohol, dry spinning the resultant spinning solution, providing an extremely thick spun yarn, then producing cross-linkages only in a surface layer part and drawing the yarn in a hot drawing step. The cross-linked layer produced in the fiber surface layer is torn in the circumferential direction of the fiber to thereby form beltlike protruding parts 1 extending in the fiber circumferential direction on the surface.
