Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE: To obtain the subject polymer useful for fibers or as e.g. a papermaking dispersant, etc., by using crude sodium 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropanesulfonate produced by neutralizing an aqueous solution of crude 2-acrylamido-2- methylpropanesulfonic acid without formation of low-molecular products and/or water-insoluble gel from the crude raw material. CONSTITUTION: This polymer is obtained by polymerizing crude sodium 2- acrylamido-2-methylpropanesulfonate (A2 ) produced by leaving an aqueous solution of crude 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropanesulfonic acid (A1 ) to stand for >=0.5h followed by neutralization, or polymerizing the component A2 plus another copolymerizable monomer (e.g. acrylonitrile, acrylamide). It is preferable that the component A2 be used after being allowed to stand for >=2.5h.
