THERMOPLASTIC POLYMER MOLDING HAVING MARBLED APPEARANCE, ITS PRODUCTION AND PATTERN-FORMING MATERIAL USED THEREFOR

PURPOSE: To obtain a molding having a marbled appearance by common molding by mixing a thermoplastic polymer base material with a pattern-forming material comprising two thermoplastic polymers having a specified relationship between their complex viscosity coefficients and a colorant. CONSTITUTION: This decorative molding having a marbled appearance is obtained by forming a composition comprising 60-99.9 pts.wt. thermoplastic polymer base material (A) and 40-0.1 pts.wt. (the total of components A and B being 100 pts.wt.) pattern- forming material (B) comprising a mixture of 1-95wt.% thermoplastic polymer (B1 ) having a complex viscosity coefficient η1 with 99-5wt.% another thermoplastic polymer (B2 ) having a complex viscosity coefficient of η2 and satisfying the relationship: η1 /η2 >=5 at the same temperature T, or mixture obtained by adding 80wt.%, based on the total weight of the mixture, colorant to the above mixture, and molding the composition at the temperature T under specified conditions. Component A is freely selected from among common thermoplastic polymers. It is suitable that component B1 is a crystalline thermoplastic polymer having a melting point equal to or higher than the molding temperature of a molding. Desirable examples of components B1 and B2 are PET and PC.
