Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE: To produce a spunlaced nonwoven fabric of cotton fiber having sufficient strength by forming a web of cotton fiber with a carding machine and subjecting the web to water-jet needling followed by mercerization. CONSTITUTION: The objective production method comprises the formation of a web of cotton fiber by a carding machine, the entanglement of the fibers by a water-jet needling treatment and subsequent mercerization of the treated web in a thick alkaline solution. The strength of a spunlaced nonwoven fabric of cotton fiber is increased as much as about 50% and the obtained fabric can be sufficiently used for an application requiring high strength.
