Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE: To utilize the space effectively while reducing the cost by composing a balance weight member being employed in order to reduce the load on a medium exchanging means, i.e., drive motor at a cartridge carrying section, of the drive mechanism part thereof. CONSTITUTION: In the automatic medium exchanger (auto-changer) for processing and managing a large amount of data, a pinion gear 11 being rotary driven through a drive motor 10, constituted in a balance weight part 9 secured by means of a belt 5 through a pulley 6, meshes a rack 13 fixed to the auto-changer body on the opposite side to the cartridge carrying part 1 which is thereby shifted in the directions (a) and (b) and then a cartridge is exchanged. This structure realizes the auto-changer excellent in the space efficiency and advantageous with regard to the cost.
