Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE: To provide a compact work holding device capable of absorbing the core deviation between both sides when a work is fitted to a counterpart member. CONSTITUTION: A work holding device 12 provided on the arm tip of a robot is provided with frames 46, 47, a ring-like supporting base 50, a chuck unit 51 and an automatic centripetal mechanism 70. The automatic centripetal mechanism 70 is composed of a ball 75, a floating member 76, etc. The floating member 76 is supported by the ball 75 so as to be freely moved in the horizontal direction and so as to be rotated in the horizontal surface. The chuck unit 51 is provided with a chuck driving part 55 housing an actuator 56, and claw members 57 to be opened and closed by the actuator 56. The claw members 57 extend downward from the supporting base 50. The chuck driving part 55 is positioned on the supporting base 50 and arranged inside the frames 46, 47.
