MANUFACTURE OF COLOR CATHODE-RAY TUBE

PURPOSE: To prevent each corner portion of a shadow mask from wrinkling so as to prevent color purity at the circumference of a phosphor screen from decreasing, in a method for manufacturing the shadow mask of a color cathode- ray tube by which the shadow mask is welded to a frame while being stretched with a predetermined tensile force. CONSTITUTION: A hole 32a, having a second pitch and a second diameter in a ratio almost equal to the ratio of the first pitch to the first diameter of an electron-beam hole 31 a in a shadow mask portion 31, is provided in the skirt portion 32 of a shadow mask blank 30, and the mechanical strength of the skirt portion 32 is almost equal to that of the shadow mask portion 31. Therefore, even if each side of the shadow mask blank 30 is stretched with a predetermined tensile force, elongation of the shadow mask portion 31 is almost equal to that of the skirt portion 32, and wrinkling is unlikely to occur near each corner of the shadow mask portion 31.
