CONSTITUTION: A circular restarting opening is formed at the side face of a vertically elliptical shield and covered with a freely opening/closing gate 5. Excavation is stopped at a bend point and a circular shield machine 10 is assembled within the machine and started again from the opened gate 5. The clearance between the shield machine 10 and the segments S1 is sealed with an entrance rubber packing at the entrance 7 for restarting.
