Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE:To provide an antigen-site polypeptide usable as a vaccine for human influenza A virus and provide a gene coding the polypeptide. CONSTITUTION:This immunogenic artificial polypeptide has essentially the same antigenicity as the stem region of the hemagglutinin molecule of a human influenza A virus and is free from the spherical region of the hemagglutinin molecule. A gene coding the immunogenic artificial polypeptide. The virus has, e.g., HIN1, H2N2 and H3N2 subtypes to provide polypeptides having essentially the same antigenicity as that of each stem region. These immunogenic artificial polypeptides are also separable from a protease-treatment product of the above hemagglutinin molecule. The polypeptide is insusceptible to the variation of antigenicity caused by the variation of the spherical region.
