DETECTOR FOR GATHERING MACHINE

PURPOSE:To detect the thickness of a bundle of paper with no contact by mounting a detection plate which is brought into contact with a biting claw and moves, attaching an analog sensor which detects a potential difference changing with a distance to the detection plate, and reading the voltage signal of paper thickness. CONSTITUTION:Between the grippers 31, 31' of gripper levers 3, 3' and the outer periphery of a drum 1, a bundle of paper 5 is bitten from a base 4 for placing a bundle of paper positioned above the drum 1 to convey the bitten bundle of paper 5 on a conveyer for bundle of paper positioned below the drum 1. The outer surface of the biting claw 31 is brought into contact with the detection plate 6 and moves, so that the bundle of paper 5 passes the position of an analog sensor 7, by which a distance to the detection plate 6 is detected, and a voltage signal according to the distance is taken in the CPU of a controller box 10 to discriminate the thickness of the bundle of paper. Since the thickness of bundle of paper can be detected with no contact, it is possible to carry out detection work for thickness of the bundle of paper at a high speed.
