Zusammenfassung:	Detergent compositions containing ether-carboxylic acids which are prepared by oxalkylating carbohydrates and derivatives thereof followed by oxidation, either by immediately ethoxylating the carbohydrates or the derivatives thereof in the customary manner or by first alkoxylating the carbohydrates or the derivatives thereof with a higher alkylene oxide and then ethoxylating the product, and oxidising the resulting aqueous solution without further treatment with oxygen as the oxidant in the presence of a catalyst comprising at least one platinum metal in a pH range in which the carbohydrates and the carboxylic acids derived therefrom are stable.
