Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE:To provide a production method for paper or paperboard, intended to raise the surface strength and blocking resistance of coated paper or paperboard and improve a surface treating agent for eliminating stains on the blanket drum of printing machines. CONSTITUTION:The paper or paperboard can be obtained by subjecting a paper stock liquor comprising pulp and various chemical agents to papermaking process followed by coating one side or both sides of the resultant paper with a surface treating agent. In this case, the surface treating agent is prepared by the following process: polyvinyl alcohol is dissolved using sodium hydroxide into a polyvinyl alcohol solution saponified to 100mol%, which is then incorporated with 5-30wt.%, based on the polyvinyl alcohol, of a synthetic rubber latex 5-50 deg.C in glass transition temperature.
