Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To provide a therapeutic agent and/or preventive agent esp. for atherosclerosis, containing, as the active ingredient, a thiazolidine derivative having activity to suppress oxidation/peroxidation of low-density lipoproteins. CONSTITUTION:The therapeutic agent and/or preventive agent for arteriosclerosis containing as the active ingredient, a compound of the formula [R , R , R and R are each H or lower alkyl; R is H, an aliphatic acyl, (substituted) aromatic acyl or lower alkoxycarbonyl) or a pharmacologically permissible salt thereof, e.g. 5-[4-(6-hydroxy-2,5,7,8-tetramethylcoumarone-2-methoxy)benzyl] thiazolidine-2,4-dione. This compound can be administered orally or parenterally, its dose being normally 50-5000mg a day per adult.
