Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To produce the subject compound on an industrial scale at a low cost by selectively acylating the amino group of a hydroxyl-substituted aromatic primary amine derivative with an acid halide using a dialkyl-substituted pyridine as an acid acceptor. CONSTITUTION:An aromatic amide of formula V can be produced by selectively acylating a hydroxy-substituted aromatic primary amine derivative of formula I [Ar is group of formula II or formula III (X) and X2 are H, alkyl, alkoxy, acyl or halogen); A is HC1, H2SO4, HBr, p-toluenesulfonic acid or methanesulfonic acid; (n) is 0 or 1] with an acid halide of formula IV [R is (phenyl-substituted)alkyl or (phenylsubstituted)alkoxy; Z is halogen]. The reaction is carried out by using a dialkyl-substituted pyridine of formula VI (X and X each are lower alkyl) (e.g. 5-ethyl-2-methylpyridine) as an acid acceptor. The process has low waste water disposal load and is extremely advantageous from industrial point of view.
