TONGS

PURPOSE:To provide tongs capable of keeping a tightening condition while their support pawls are holding, and keeping an opened condition when the support pawls are opened in holding an article with the support pawls for suspending and carrying the article by a hook provided on an elevation device. CONSTITUTION:A vertical beam 3 which moves vertically is provided in a frame 1 having a pair of support pawls 4 for holding an article W on the right and the left, a motion converting mechanism 6 to feed the support pawls 4 in gathering directions and in the other directions by elevation of the vertical beam 3 is provided along the frame 1 and the vertical beam 3, and a stop hook 21 to connect the frame 1 to the vertical beam 3 is provided on either one of the frame 1 and the vertical beam 3 to oscillate freely. A clutch 7 is provided along the frame 1 and the vertical beam 3 for changing between the case of stopping actuation of the motion converting mechanism 6 by connecting the frame 1 to the vertical beam 3 through the stop hook 21 by elevation of the vertical beam 3, and the case of actuating the motion converting mechanism 6 with connection of the frame 1 to the vertical beam 3 by the stop hook 21 disconnected.
