Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To obtain the new compound having a high positive electron hole- transporting ability, excellent in compatibility with binding resins, useful as a positive electron hole-transporting material for electroluminescent elements, etc., and providing highly sensitive electrophotographic sensitizers. CONSTITUTION:A compound of formula I (R ,R are H, alkyl; R ,R are 3-5C linear or branched alkyl; but a case in which R -R are simultaneously propyl is excluded), e.g. N,N'-bis(4-normal butylphenyl)-1,3-phenylenediamine. The compound is obtained, e.g. by reacting N,N'-diacetyl-1,3-phenylenediamine of formula II with 4-methyl-iodobenzene of formula III in a molar ratio of 1:2 in the presence of copper powder, copper oxide, etc., and a basic substance, deacetylating the obtained N,N'-diacetyl-N,N'bis(4-toluyl)-1,3-phenylenediamine, and subsequently reacting the produced compound of formula IV with 4-normal butyl iodobenzene in a molar ratio of 1:2.
