Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To accurately estimate a traveling course by comparing estimated traveling coureses and finally selecting any traveling course by majority. CONSTITUTION:Signals from first and second traveling course estimating means 6B and 6C are inputted to a traveling area setting means 28 together with a reliability arithmetic means 27. This reliability arithmetic means 27 is constituted to calculate the reliability of traveling courses (advancing courses) estimated by the traveling course estimating means 6B and 6C. On the other hand, the area setting means 28 finally estimates a traveling area (corresponding to an obstacle judged area) estimated to travel its own automobile later from the advancing courses and traveling courses (left and right white line parts) based on the reliability. When the difference mutually between the reliability values of traveling courses exceeds a threshold value, the traveling courses estimated by the respective traveling course estimating means are compared by a traveling area estimating means and the traveling course is finally selected by majority.
