METHOD FOR CONTINUOUSLY CASTING DOUBLE LAYER METALLIC MATERIAL

PURPOSE:To obtain a double layer metallic material having excellent separation of components in the surface and the inner layers and uniform surface layer thickness, at the time of continuously casting the double layer metallic material. CONSTITUTION:In the continuous casting method for supplying two kinds of molten metals having different compositions at the upper and the lower parts while using static magnetic field zone 3 crossing in the continuous casting mold 1 as a boundary, after dipping a metallic rod 8 into pool in the mold, this rod is pulled up and the boundary between two kinds of the molten metals is estimated by distribution of the thickness of the solidified metal 9 stuck to the surrounding of the rod. The supplying rates per unit time of two kinds of the molten metals are controlled so that this boundary position coincides with the aimed value. By this method, the mixture of the components, the unstability of the surface layer thickness, etc., caused by the variation of the boundary position, etc., are dispelled, and the double layer metallic material having excellent separation of the components and uniform thickness of the surface layer is produced.
