PRODUCTION OF COATED PAPER FOR PRINTING

PURPOSE:To produce a coated paper for printing, having high quality and free from generation of uneven luster and uneven smoothness in hot calendering and generation of uneven ink absorption in printing. CONSTITUTION:This process for the production of a double-coated printing paper having an under-coating layer and a top-coating layer both composed mainly of a pigment and an adhesive on a base paper comprises the use of an under-coating layer containing 20-100 pts.wt. (based on 100 pts.wt. of the total pigment) of a pigment having an apparent specific gravity of 0.2-0.7g/cc measured in conformity to JIS-K5101 (tap method), the use of an adhesive for the top coating layer containing 5-30 pts.wt. (based on 100 pts.wt. of the pigment) of a polymer latex having a glass transition temperature of 25-60 deg.C, the coating of the base paper with the coating compositions, the drying of the coated paper and the pressing and smoothing of the paper by passing through a calender at >=100 deg.C.
