MAGNETIC RECORDING MEDIUM, MANUFACTURE THEREOF AND MAGNETIC DISC DEVICE USING THE SAME

PURPOSE:To realize a magnetic recording medium in which the film thickness and the magnetic characteristics are made uniform by making the magnetic characteristics as uniform as possible in the radial direction of a disc substrate. CONSTITUTION:An underlying film of Cr having a two-stage column structure is deposited on a disc substrate and a magnetic film of a Co based alloy 15 deposited thereon. Each column of the underlying film of Cr are inclining within a place perpendicular to the record reading direction and the column of second and subsequent stage has a part where the inclination angle is different from that of the column of lower following stage. Preferably, the first stage column has an inclination angle in the range of -30 deg. to 30 deg. with the crystal face thereof inclining in the same direction as the first stage column whereas the crystal face of column in the second and subsequent stage has the same inclination as the crystal face of first stage column. The inclination of coercive force can be controlled from the inner periphery to the outer periphery of the disc within + or -5% of film thickness distribution and the coercive force distribution can be uniformized within 50Oe with in the disc plane.
