BENZAMIDE DERIVATIVE AND ITS PRODUCTION

PURPOSE:To obtain a new benzamide having vasopressin antagonistic action, vasodilating action, etc., and useful as an agent for the treatment and prevention of hypertension, cardiac insufficiency, etc. CONSTITUTION:The compound of formula I {R is H or lower alkyl; R is H, lower (halo)alkyl, etc.; R and R are H, lower alkyl, etc.; R is H, halogen, nitro, etc.; R is H, lower alkyl or acyl; A is group of formula II [R is H, halogen, amino, etc.; R is H, etc.; R is (substituted) lower alkylthio; R is H, etc.; R is H, OH, etc.; R is (acyl-substituted) lower alkyl; R is lower alkyl]; X and X are CH or N; Y is group of formula III (R is H, OH, etc.; R is aryloxy, naphthyl, etc.; R is aryl); (n) 0-3}, e.g. 1-{4-[2-(4-methylphenyl) benzoylamino]benzoyl}-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinoline. The compound of formula I can be produced by reacting a compound of formula IV with a compound of formula V.
