Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE:To obtain a new compound having an excellent antimicrobial activity even on a multiple drug-resistant microorganism such as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and useful as a therapeutic agent for a disease caused by a pathogenic microorganism, e.g. a superative disease. CONSTITUTION:A compound of formula I [R is H or a 1 to 6C alkyl; X and Y are H, a halogen] and its salt, e.g. the compound of formula I in which R =H and X=Y=Cl. The compound of formula I is obtained by culturing a microorganism belonging to Actinoplanes and capable of producing a compound of formula II or its variant, e.g. Actinoplanes sp A 40665 strain, collecting the compound of formula II from the cultured solution and the cell bodies and converting it into its 1 to 6C alkyl ester according to demand.
