MOLD FOR CONTINUOUS CASTING

PURPOSE:To eliminate the unevenness of natural solidification and to prevent the deterioration in characteristic in a cast slab by making the most outward surface layer in two or more of refractory layers flat, forming the remained intermediate layer with the refractory having different thermal conductivity with the adjacent layer in this thickness direction and forming the interface of both layers into the projected and recessed surface. CONSTITUTION:Firstly, on the surface of a metallic belt 1, the refractory-made projected and recessed layer 2 is formed by thermal-spraying or coating as the first layer. On this projected and recessed layer 2, the refractory-made flatened layer 3 is formed by the same way of the thermal-spraying or the coating as the second layer. In this case, the thermal conductivities of the refractories constituted with the projected and recessed layer 2 and the flatened layer 3 are necessary to be different, respectively. Therefore, the parts having different thermal resistances are distributed regularly or irregularly over the whole direction of the surface of a mold contacting with the molten metal, i.e., at each place in the planeness, and the unevenness of the natural solidification is eliminated.
