Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To suppress an excessive temperature increase in a catalyst tube, etc., and control the temperature increase in respective parts of a reformer by introducing diluting air without participating in the combustion in a heat feeding means together with a combustion gas from a heat feeding means into the reformer. CONSTITUTION:This reformer for a fuel cell is obtained by introducing diluting air (false air) into the downstream side of a heat feeding means so as to keep the temperature of a combustion gas constant, i.e., mixing air bypassed through the heat feeding means with the combustion gas when the temperature of the combustion gas is increased although the heat feeding means itself is operated at a prescribed air ratio, controlling the temperature of the mixed gas, forming a bypass flow passage having a false air feed valve 52 between the air feed side and the combustion gas vent side of a catalyst combustor 22, monitoring the temperature at the tip of a catalyst tube 21 in a heat exchanger type reformer 2 and controlling the opening degree of the false air feed valve 52 or synthetically monitoring the temperatures in other parts and the combustion gas at the inlet and outlet of the reformer, load on the fuel cell, etc., and controlling the opening degree of the valve.
