Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To make a bias distribution uniform, to improve linearity and bias efficiency and to avert shorting of MR elements and bias conductors. CONSTITUTION:An MR element 5 and a bias conductor 6 for impressing a bias magnetic field to this MR element 5 are arranged between a lower shielding magnetic material 1 and an upper shielding magnetic material 2. The bias conductor 6 of such MR head is embedded into a groove part 10 of the lower shielding magnetic material 1 disposed on the side opposite to the side where electrodes 3, 4 are formed.
