Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To provide the optical character read method which prevents a form from being dirtied and shortens the processing time. CONSTITUTION:The form is inverted and carried so that hand-written character fields on the form are not brought into contact with a carrying roll. The lowest row of image data on the form is first taken in (step 11). When image data in the lowest row is taken in (step 12), character segmentation is started (step 13), and characters are recognized (step 14). Thus, the processing time is shortened because character recognition is started before taking-in of overall image data.
