Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To reduce the number of cycles of processes in which active materials are packed using chemical impregnation method and to provide plates that provide stable performance by restraining corrosion of a porous nickel substrate even when it is immersed in a high-temperature, high-concentration solution with which it is to be impregnated. CONSTITUTION:In a method for impregnating a porous nickel substrate 1 with an aqueous solution of cadmium nitrate by immersing it in the aqueous solution which has e.g. a specific gravity of 1.70 and a pH of 1.5-2.0 and is held at a temperature of 80 deg.C, impregnation and preliminary drying processes are each effected at least twice for every cycle of filling processes from the second cycle, and the main drying process is effected thereafter. In the preliminary drying process, hot blast is blown toward each side of the substrate 1 to hold its surface temperature at 70 deg.C or higher.
