ON-LINE CHARACTER RECOGNIZING DEVICE

PURPOSE:To provide an on-line character recognizing device which gives no unnatural feeling to the writers of characters and can improve the character recognizing factor by transmitting only the candidate characters similar to each other in terms of images to an input character. CONSTITUTION:When the handwritten characters, etc., are supplied to a coordinate input means 20, a character recognizing part 30 extracts the feature points out of a coordinate data string acquired by the device 20 and outputs the candidate characters. An input character category sorting means 40 sorts the categories of input characters based on those supplied feature points. A candidate character category sorting means 42 sorts the categories of candidate characters sent from the part 30 by means of a category sorting dictionary 41. These sorted input and candidate character categories are compared with each other by a category comparing means 43. An in-category pattern collating means 44 applies the image matching only to the characters having their categories coincident with each other through the means 43.
