Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE:To ensure that excellent operability, easy portability, compactness, small power consumption and acceptability even by a general household are achieved. CONSTITUTION:A battery-driven portable water softening device is equipped with ion exchange resin cartridges 7, 8 connected to an untreated water feed pipe and a regeneration tank 9 filled with a regenerative liquid through flow path changeover valves 6, 10, a water passage sensor 4 attached on the untreated water feed pipe, and an electric mode switching control means which supplies a circuit current, if a signal from a water passage sensor 4 is a water supply signal and does not supply the circuit current, if the signal is a water stoppage signal.
