Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To provide a liquid crystal display device which reduces the problem or degredation in picture quality due to the step of a light shielding film or a black matrix by selectively providing the light shielding film on the surface of a transparent substrate and burying a transparent resin film in intervals of the light shielding film with the same film thickness as the light shielding film. CONSTITUTION:A liquid crystal panel where a polarizing plate is provided on the outside of a substrate SUB2 is provided, and a black matrix BM consisting of an organic or inorganic light absorbing material and an organic resin is selectively provided on one face of the transparent glass substrate SUB2. A transparent resin film FU is buried in intervals of the black matrix BM with the same film thickness as the black matrix BM to make the transparent resin film FU and the black matrix BM approximately flat, and a color filter FIL is provided on intervals of the black matrix BM, and a transparent picture element electrode and an oriented film are provided on it. Since the black matrix BM and the transparent resin film FU are made approximately flat, the variance in threshold voltage of liquid crystal and the occurrence of domains are reduced.
