Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE: To measure the perpendicularity of the end face of a rod without rotation by fitting a flat plate to the end face of a rod in such a manner as to be vertical to the central axis of the rod, and bringing the plate into contact with the end face to measure the angle of inclination to the central axis of the rod. CONSTITUTION: A measuring device 24 has a flat plate 26 fitted in such a manner as to be vertical to the central axis 12 of a fuel rod 10 while being adjacent to the flat plate 26 and the end face 14. Further the device comprises a measuring means for determining the perpendicularity of the end face 14 expressed by the inclined state of the plate 26 by translating the plate 26 to come into contact with the end face 14 and measuring the angle of inclination of the contacting plate 26 to the central axis 12. The measuring means includes a direct displacement sensor 46. The sensor 46 is installed on a plate support table 32, and has an expansible probe. A difference in measurement values of the sensor 46 is amplified by a distance from the central axis 12, so that the inclined state of the plate 26 is more clearly indicated. Thus, the measuring device 24 can measure the inclination of the end face 14 without rotating the rod 10 to measure the perpendicularity of the end face.
