Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE:To obtain printing wherein dot shift in a vertical direction is extremely small in the case where letters intended to be printed are printed by dividing printing into at least two steps. CONSTITUTION:A printer is constituted of a carriage 31 having a printing head 32 mounted thereon, a carriage driving belt 14, a slit plate 16 provided on a motor shaft, and a power transmission mechanism for transmitting the power to a motor 2 - the carriage driving belt 14. The construction is made in such a way that when the carriage makes one reciprocation, the engaged states of the motor 2 - the carriage driving belt 14 are returned to their original states.
