Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To obtain the derivative having a structure expressed by a specific structural formula, capable of reducing the viscosity of a liquid crystal composition without narrowing a liquid crystal temperature region, having extremely good compatibility at low temperature in the composition and useful for a portable computer, etc. CONSTITUTION:This derivative of formula I [R is 1-10C alkyl, alkoxy, halogen or cyano; ring A and A' are (F or Cl substituted) 1,4-phenylene or (F or Cl substituted) 1,4-cyclhexylene; B is 1,2-ethylene or covalent bond; R is 1-10C alkyl; (n) is 0, 1] is obtained e.g. by reacting a cyclohexanol derivative of formula H with a fluorinating agent, e.g. diethyl-aminosulfur trifluoride in a solvent, e.g. methylene chloride at a temperature in the range from -78 deg.C to room temperature.
