Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To prevent the spontaneous disintegration phenomenon of a barium- contg. high temp. oxide superconductor due to moisture in the air by adding a metal oxide having water resistance by a reaction with barium to the superconductor. CONSTITUTION:Basic starting materials for a barium-contg. high temp. oxide superconductor are mixed in a prescribed ratio, kneaded and temporarily sintered, partially generated green impurities are removed and the remainder is ground to obtain temporarily sintered powder. A metal oxide selected from oxides of cerium group elements each having water resistance by a reaction with barium is added to the poxyder by a prescribed amt. (3-10wt.% in the case of CeO2) and they are press-compacted into a pellet shape and heated in a furnace to obtain a sintered compact. This sintered compact is heated again in the air, slowly cooled, heat-treated and cooled to room temp. to produce the objective high temp. oxide superconductor preventing spontaneous disintegration and the deterioration of its superconducting characteristics.
