Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE:To increase the carrying amounts of a NOx absorbing component and a noble metal catalyst and improve NOx purifying efficiency by carrying the noble metal catalyst at least and prevent the elution of the NOx absorbing component such as Ba. CONSTITUTION:Production of an exhaust gas purifying catalyst comprises the steps of (1) carrying a NOx absorbing substance on a porous carrier; (2) carbonating the NOx absorbing substance by carrying out carbonation treatment for the NOx absorbing substance-carrying carrier; and (3) carrying a noble metal catalyst on the resulting carrier in this order. Elution of the NOx absorbing substance is prevented and precipitation and deposition of the noble metal catalyst are also prevented in the third step by converting the NOx absorbing substance into the insoluble carbonate.
