Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE:To provide a shaft inspecting apparatus and shaft inspecting method, which can detect and inspect the deformation such as flaws produced on the surface of the shaft quantitatively and has simple inspecting steps. CONSTITUTION:A supporting mechanism 19 supports a shaft 5 of a laterally flow fan (work) 1 having the shaft 5 so that the shaft 5 can freely rotate. A vibration sensor 33 is provided at the supporting mechanism 19 and detects the vibration generated in the supporting mechanism 19 through the shaft 5 when the work 1 is turned around the axial line of the shaft 5. A computer 36 inspects the presence or absence of the deformation such as flaws at the surface of the shaft 5 by performing the frequency analysis of the vibration detected with the vibration sensor 33.
