Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE: To prevent damage to an air bag during and after assembly of an air bag inflator module by housing the air bag in a rigid housing when the air bag is folded by a tear-away retaining flap. CONSTITUTION: An inflatable folded-up air bag 30 is retained in a rigid housing 12 and is open through the open end 12a of a housing 12 when the air bag 30 inflates. The open end 12a of the housing 12 is surrounded by a cover 34 which is torn along a tear-away line when it is deployed and opens rotating along a hinge area 44 by fastening means 48, 49, 50, and usually houses the folded-up air bag 30. A tear-away retaining flap 32 made of a thin flexible sheet material is mounted to retain the folded air bag 30 in the housing 12 while a cover 24 is attached on the open end 12a, thus it is possible to prevent the damage of the air bag 30 during assembly.
