BLANK MATERIAL FOR WIND INSTRUMENT

PURPOSE:To facilitate plastic working, such as working of a pipe and subsequent bending, and improves a yield, workability and quality by consisting the blank material of an Au-Ag-Cu alloy consisting of Cu and Ag of specific value ranges and the balance Au. CONSTITUTION:This blank material consists of the Au-Ag-Cu alloy consisting of 38 to 42% Cu, 0.5 to 3% Ag and the balance Au. The reason for limiting the content of the Cu to 38 to 42% lies in that the effect of the addition is insufficient if the content is below 38% and crack and surface roughening are liable to arise in plastic working if the content exceeds 42%. The reason for limiting the content of the Ag to 0.5 to 3% lies in that there is no effect of the addition if the content is below 0.5% and gases are liable to be absorbed and pinholes are liable to be generated at the time of brazing; in addition, the reddish karat which is the characteristic by the addition of the Cu is lost and the color turns yellowish if the content exceeds 3%. Then, the mechanical strength is made up and the cost is suppressed. The poorness of the workability by the intermetallic compd. in the binary alloy of Au and Cu is ameliorated by the Ag and the mechanical characteristics and tint of the Cu are effectively utilized by this element.
