Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE:To provide an 8-membered organogermanium compound having activity as a preventive/therapeutic agent for various diseases caused by immunity, such as nephritis, hepatitis or AIDS. CONSTITUTION:The objective preventive/therapeutic agent consisting mainly of a 8-membered polymer of 3-oxygermylpropionic acid expressed by a steric structure of the formula [R is CH2CH2COOH; m is weight-average polymerization degree reduced from the weight-average molecular weight of propagermanium propyl ester, being l37+ or -84 (average + or - standard error (3sigma)], having the following characteristics: (1) minimum structural unit: (O1/2)3GeCH2 CH2COOH and (2) empirical formula: C6H10Ge2O7. When the compound of the formula is to be administered to humans, it is preferable that this compound be used as an efficacy-activated composition prepared so as to contain 0.005-50wt.% of an efficacy-activated stabilized carrier based on 0.005-5wt.% of this compound. The stabilized carrier is e.g. a saccharide such as lactic acid or sucrose, a natural polymeric material such as hydroxypropyl cellulose or albumin.
