PRODUCTION OF TWO-SIDE COATED PAPER

PURPOSE:To provide a process for the production of a two-side coated paper having dull or semidull tone with a glossiness of 30-55%, high smoothness, low density, high bulkiness and excellent printing suitability and printing workability. CONSTITUTION:A coating composition composed mainly of a pigment and an adhesive is applied to both surfaces of a stock paper composed mainly of cellulose pulp in the form of an undercoating layer and a top coating layer and dried to produce a two-side coated paper. In the above process, the glossiness of the coated surface is adjusted to 30-55% and the smoothness is adjusted to 200-600sec measured by an Oken-type smoothness tester by using a base paper having a smoothness of 15-80sec measured by an Oken-type smoothness tester and applying a coating composition containing >=50wt.% (based on the total pigment) of kaolin having an average particle diameter of 0.3-O.8mum as the top-coating layer.
