Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To provide a process for the purification of a phenylazopyrazole compound capable of producing an ultra-high purity product with a simple method. CONSTITUTION:A crude phenylazopyrazole compound of the formula (R1 and R2 are H, halogen, NO2, alkyl or alkoxy; R3 is H, OH or alkyl; R4 is H or alkyl; R5 is alkyl or substituted or unsubstituted aryl) is dissolved in a water-soluble organic solvent (e.g. ketones, Cellosolves or amides) and crystallized by the addition of water in the presence of 1-30wt.%, preferably 3-20wt.% (based on the compound of the formula) of a chelating agent to obtain purified phenylazopyrazole compound. The chelating agent is e.g. ethylenediamine-N,N,N ',N'-tetraacetic acid and N-(hydroxyethyl)-ethylenediamine-N,N',N'-triacetic acid and is used preferably in a state dissolved or dispersed in water to be used in the process.
