APPARATUS FOR PRODUCTION OF ZINC OXIDE WHISKER AND METHOD THEREFOR

PURPOSE:To provide the apparatus for industrial production and the method for production for continuously forming zinc oxide whiskers of a tetrapot type suitable as a reinforcing material for a synthetic. resin, etc. CONSTITUTION:Hydrocarbon fuel is burned under lack of air in the lower part of a vertical type reaction furnace 12 and a crucible 4 for evaporating metal zinc to metal vapor is arranged in the reducing combustion gas formed in such a manner. The upper part of the furnace is formed as an oxidative atmosphere region 15 essentially consisting of air. The upper part of the crucible 4 is provided with a concentrical discharge slit-shaped aperture 9 for the dry reducing combustion gas over the entire outer periphery of the nozzle. The nozzle is so constituted that the zinc vapor rises in the central part, the dry reducing combustion gas on the outer side thereof and the reducing combustion gas further on the outer side thereof, respectively concentrically, at the front end of the nozzle. The clogging of the front end of the nozzle by the zinc oxide aggregate consisting of the agglomerated particles formed by the collision of the zinc vapor and the moisture in the reducing combustion gas is prevented by such constitution.
