Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE: To effectively change the compressive properties of edge knurling by changing the height of a knurling pattern in the longitudinal direction of a web or changing the density of the knurling pattern in a longitudinal or traverse direction. CONSTITUTION: Rollers 54-60 feeding a web having an edge 36 in its longitudinal direction along a predetermined route are provided. Means 10-34 for forming an area of a predetermined pattern having height exceeding the surface of the area of the web and extended in at least one longitudinal direction to the longitudinal edge of at least one side surface of the web are provided. In order to change the compression value of this area along the longitudinal direction of the web by a predetermined method, a means for controlling the forming means 10-34 is provided. Rollers 62, 64, 66 and a motor 68 for taking up the web in a roll form after forming a pattern to the web having inside and outside end parts are provided.
