PURPOSE:To rapidly control a gap by providing a corresponding stop position data memory means, a stop position display means, a stop position selecting means and a selected position display control means and immediately displaying a control member stopping position optimum to apply printing to paper when a form is set by a form setting means. CONSTITUTION:A gap control mechanism 30 due to the operation of a control member is provided and printing is performed according to the predetermined format automatically determined corresponding to the form set by a form setting means 40. In this printer 10, a corresponding stop position data memory means 13P stores the corresponding stop position data wherein each format is allowed to correspond to the stop position of the control member. A stop position display means 50 displays each stop position of the control member in a discriminable manner. Stop position selecting means 11,12 select the stop position corresponding to the set format. A selected position display means 11 displays the stop position of the selected control member on the means 50.
