Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To prevent erroneous detection of a rotation signal owing to a noise overlap and prevent unstable holding of the rotation signal by computing the rotation signal, used for shift control, from the pulse period at each main program and the pulse integrated value of a rotation pulse signal. CONSTITUTION:A continuously variable transmission for an automobile is operated such that the effective diameters of input and output shaft pulleys are changed through control of the oil pressures of cylinders 225 and 226 for input and output shafts by means of solenoid valves 1 and 2, respectively, for control of a shift oil pressure and control of a main oil pressure. Energization to the solenoid valves 1 and 2 is controlled by a control device according to a drive state. In this case, when a rotation signal used for shift control is determined, an integrated pulse period is calculated from the preceding and the present final pulse delay time of a rotation pulse signal, inputted at a program processing timing, a pulse width check addition count value, and a main processing time. The rotation signal is computed from the integrated pulse period and the integrated value of the rotation pulse signal.
