Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE:To enhance the protection characteristic and long-range reliability of a lightning insulator set and to allow the insulator set to easily capture lightning surge current. CONSTITUTION:A supporting insulator 2 for supporting a transmission line 4 and a lightning insulator 6 having a built-in resistance element of nonlinear voltage-current characteristic are mounted on the respective portions of the support arm 1 of a steel tower. Discharge electrodes 14, 20 are provided at the ends of the support and lightning insulators 2, 6, respectively, and are arranged opposite to each other with a predetermined aerial discharging gap G therebetween. The aerial discharging gap G is normally opened by rotating the ground discharge electrode 20 using a switching motor 20, and is closed when a thunder occurs and is opened again after the thunder has ceased.
