2-@(3754/24)2,6-DIHALOPHENYL)-4-@(3754/24)2-ALKOXY-4-ALKYL, HALO OR TRIFLUOROMETHYLPHENYL)-2-OXAZOLINES AND AGRICULTURAL AND HORTICULTURAL INSECTICIDE COMPRISING THE SAME ACTIVE INGREDIENT

PURPOSE:To obtain a new compound useful as an agricultural and horticultural insecticide effectively controlling especially hemipterous insect pests with a small amount. CONSTITUTION:A compound of formula I (R is methyl, Cl, Br, F or trifluoromethyl; R' is methyl, ethyl, n-propyl or isopropyl; X is F or Cl) such as 2-(2,6-difluorophenyl)-4-(4-chloro-2-n-propoxyphenyl)-2-oxazoline. The compound of formula I is obtained by reacting a 2-phenylglucinol of formula II with fluorophenylbenzoyl chloride in the presence of a base (e.g. triethylamine) in a solvent such as THF and subjecting to ring closure. The compound of formula II is obtained by subjecting ethyloxalyl chloride and anhydrous aluminum chloride to Friedel Crafts reaction to give a keto-ester derivative, converting the keto-ester derivative to an oxime derivative and reducing.
